DEFINISI

nLapisan jaringan atau Network layer adalah lapisan ketiga dari bawah dalam model referensi jaringan OSI.

nOSI (Open system Interconnection) merupakan salah satu aturan standar yang dikeluarkan oleh badan pembuat aturan dan standar untuk komunikasi komputer dan berperan penting dalam mengidentifikasi system komputer untuk melaksanakan pengolahan dan penyaluran data.

Layanan – layanan yang disediakan bagi transport layer:

nlayanan harus independent terhadap tekhnologi subnet

nalamat jaringan yang biasa digunakan oleh transport layer harus menggunakan penomoran yang seragam, bahkan untuk LAN maupun WAN

nKehandalan dan keamanan lalu lintas data

nUnjuk kerja (semakin besar LAN, unjuk kerja semakin menurun) ;
